The Quickening

Romans 8:11

Quicken is not a word we use much in our modern English vernacular, in fact if you Google the title of this post you will find mostly just references to Sci-Fi and Fantasy stories. The word basically means "to make alive" and is usually rendered that way in modern translations of this verse. I prefer the old word tho...possibly because I am somewhat of a nerd, but I think more because it is a vibrant, healing word and it "quickens" this verse for me :-).

Meditations on Romans 8:11

The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead LIVES IN ME!

He is ever working to make me alive, not just my spirit, but also MY MORTAL BODY!

I can RECEIVE the healing He has already placed within me.

Translations of Romans 8:11
"When God lives and breathes in you (and he does, as surely as he did in Jesus), you are delivered from that dead life. With his Spirit living in you, your body will be as alive as Christ’s!" (MSG)
"And if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he that raised up the Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwells in you." (JUB)
"Does the Spirit of the one who brought Jesus back to life live in you? Then the one who brought Christ back to life will also make your mortal bodies alive by his Spirit who lives in you." (GW)
"And if the Spirit of Him Who raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, [then] He Who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will also restore to life your mortal (short-lived, perishable) bodies through His Spirit Who dwells in you." (AMP)
"And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you." (Romans 8:10-11 NKJV)
